What is Conch?

The conch or Lambi in Haitian creole is a large sea snail found throughout the warm waters of the Caribbean and the Indo-Pacific.

Its massive spiral shell can reach up to 12 inches in length; its meat is often savored as a delicacy in various parts of the world, not only for its deliciousness but also due to its aesthetic qualities, which can be obtained through polishing ornaments from their shells.

Craftspeople also use these beautiful creatures to make jewelry and buttons, among other things. They are also an important part of marine ecosystems, where they help keep coral reefs healthy by eating algae that would otherwise overwhelm them.

This makes aquatic ecosystems more diverse. Ultimately, conchs provide sustenance for fish, crabs, and avian species!
